An instructional design is to create a highly interesting and engaging course by aiming on instructional design strategies. Project A gave me the experience of overall knowledge and steps to bring up an instructional design through the ADDIE model. I thank my client for the opportunity given to redesigning the course speech 101, I did not find the task so difficult with the background knowledge that I had in system analysis and program development although placing them to the educational ADDIE model was something new to me but enjoyed every moment of the processes, including the supplemental learning.
The analysis of the initial task was finding the clear objectives and the goals of the course, what the students need to achieve at the end of the course and motivating them to complete the course and be successful. To achieve this I placed myself in the student’s shoes to understand the real requirement and expectations of the student and trying to connect it with the client was the real experience and I enjoyed working through the assessment. The initial steps of the Instructional design need to be accurate as this will influence the overall implementation. Overlooking the initial analysis would not buildup a perfect learning outcome.
The design step, to begin with was difficult as it took time for me to understand the logic and concepts of the learning expectations and how objectives matched by goals under the learning activities making practical decisions, this took a lot of time, but after completing this I felt that I had accomplished my challenge as the strategy, delivery methods, structure, duration, assessments, and feedback were a blueprint of the course. Expectations were not very clear on the evaluation part and for me to understand the theory I referred to the Rapid Instructional design manual several times, as this stage was a stability check prior to moving forward.
Completing the development along with the job aid gave me the experience to facilitate the course that a layman could understand with the goal and the objective of the course. The job aid instructions had to be clear and precise in order that anyone could use this for training purposes anytime the course is offered which will help any facilitator. The strongest part of the design process was the job aid. The instructor, client, and my peer reviewer’s changes were established before the final implementation was written although I did not have to go through many changes. Evaluation is a way in which the course can be revised and improved for the future, requesting the students to complete surveys and analyzing them through individual performance would provide immense help to improve the forthcoming course structure.
Compiling all parts to one instructional design document was very exciting knowing that the end results of Project A were completed with success. I am eager to take up the project B and foresee myself learning the final touches of Instructional design. I am confident that these projects will be an immense benefit in my future work as an instructional design technologist.
