Technology Based Learning Environment – Experience with Canvas

The long-awaited moment arrived, login into the Canvas and working on it was fun for me. Although I have used Blackboard and Canvas in my studies at UNT, I never dreamed that I would have a chance to learn and enter data into Canvas. This was my dream moment !!!. for my future endeavors.

Starting up the Canvas was very smooth. With a little bit of trial and error on figuring out how the course module was to be entered, the rest of the content entry moved very fast. This followed the entry of each discussion and assignment. The discussions were direct entry from my design document with a bit of rephrasing to suit the student. When organizing the data entry on each of the assignment I revisited my design document and thought about the idea of how to get more reflection from the student. This made me reflect on the experience I had as a student what worked best for me and what I felt brought more collaboration and active learning to the modules I followed.

I always preferred the discussion post which brought more reflection and collaboration into the course, especially when students are required to bring in there views on the topic discussed. With a diverse community and student being from numerous work environments, different reflections and individual perceptions would flow into the class and this would be an ideal investment to move deep into the Action research practices from the students perspective. As such I changed my assignment to be an “Assignment with a reflective discussion” where students are required to post a reply to two of the discussions post once students (other peers) post their assignment.

Another part I included in my design document was the infographic assignment that the student could use their imaginary thoughts to highlight, explain and enhance the text-based information to visual content which will benefit them to analyze their chosen topic. This would be helpful to sketch out and identify the important points and pieces of information for their final document as well as serve them as a guideline.

Having completed the data entry part on the Canvas, the next step was to enter the course information, goals and objectives into Canvas it did not take me to figure out where this was needed and the method to be used. There was not much of an interaction between the peers for this blog even through the process of planning for the next weeks were discussed through e-mails and we drew up a plan how the reviews were to take place in the coming weeks. By giving access to both my peers they will concurrently review as we go on completing the full course.
