LinkedIn vs. Facebook

Having been with the LinkedIn for a while, LinkedIn seems to be the top professional social networking site having 133 million users in the U.S and far-reaching to 200 countries and territories around the world, and 87 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn as part of their candidate search (Ronda, n.d.). Even though I have not been interested, I have received job offers through LinkedIn and have seemed the profile view been increased. To fully utilize all LinkedIn facilities and maximize the potential, the LinkedIn profile needs to be up to date, by including current skills, objectives and highlighting the recent experience. More opportunities could be accumulated by representing who you are, your experience, skills, and objectives.

Although LinkedIn and Facebook both designed to connect people online, LinkedIn is for business and professional networking whereas Facebook is to connect people that could be family and friends. When you join Facebook, by including basic information, contact information, relationship details, and personal details, this information you complete will help other people find you on Facebook. In LinkedIn when the user creates the profile that is akin to a resume with current and previous professional experience, company, industry, affiliates, the education background, and user’s website and sites affiliated you can connect with colleagues, clients, and partners. The connections also expand to include the people they know and have connected with on LinkedIn (Beal, 2008)
