Reflection

What are you most concerned about with protecting human participants with research?

Due to the unethical research with a human subject that has been carried out in the past which has troubled US history, it has led to the creating of a code of ethics to protect the research of human subjects.

Acknowledging the fact that the human subject is an essence to conducting research to foster teaching and learning through the new technology of instructions to the life of the learner.  I need to keep in mind the importance of respecting the research participants and ensuring that the study reports are maintained as confidentially. This will be based on honesty, trust, and respecting the basic principles of the participants in conducting the research. In conducting my research, I would be obtaining the knowledge of consent from the participants, will inform about the true nature of trying to bring teaching through new technology to better serve the population, give enough time to the participants to decide whether or not they would participate in the research study, inform the outcome of the study and the benefits that the population would derive from the study.

Do you currently or plan to work with members of a protected population?

Yes, I am in the hope of planning to research involving vulnerable groups and how new technology of instruction can take teaching and learning, to these populations. Education is a key to a brighter future of all individual and a basic right according to the Universal Declaration of Human rights, adapted in 1948, in Article 26, “Everyone has the right to education”

Refugees are inside the camps who have been forced to leave their homes because of war and persecution. They are housed in refugee camps on temporary shelter but not intended to provide a permanent solution. They only receive a roof over their head, with medical treatment, food shelter, and basic services. The basic right to education is limited, it is important to restore a sense of purpose, dignity, and hope for these people so that they too can see a brighter future outside the camps. This improves their chances of earning an income as adults and moving forward out of poverty.

How might this impact your work?

As my research directs to the most vulnerable people and human subject with questions been raised to ethical behavior in research and vulnerable people being at risk, this may impact my work of the approval being delayed, although research history shows that the delay in approval has been due to not obtaining consent from the participants and the dangers that could imply with the research. Another concern I have is whether this research is counted as international, while there is a possibility of obtaining participants from immigrants who have arrived in the US from refugee camps.

Although these could be issues to my research, I feel I would take up the challenge to better serve the community and highlight the possibilities of connecting them to learning experience for their future benefit through the new technology of instructions. Having worked and served the refugees in my previous employment. I am confident that I could reach in serving them.
