Topic: What was it like to create your first fixed/quantitative research design?
It was a challenging experience. First not knowing exactly how to proceed with the assignment, I had a rough time figuring out what is required and what was not. Although contacting the other classmates we all arrived at a point of how we would move forward, the confirmation from Dr, Warren was the real starting point for the design.
I would have preferred if I had more time or be away from work, home, and family and just do this research, it would have felt great without much stress. When completing the Design Framework Template my thoughts were just fixed on the main points of literature to support the study, but when I started the PowerPoint presentation and was trying to incorporate the broad methodology, my thoughts directed me to do more research into the problems I anticipated that need to be solved. This gave me a big breakthrough to find the solar-powered technology solution and the research work that Arizona State University is conducting for the humanitarian population. Although I did know that Arizona university was working on a Solar Power unit, I did not know there were already research documents. My interest in doing this research was when I did my masters, and at that time I had not thought about doing my doctoral studies. I am so pleased that the puzzle is coming into place.
What was easy?
Doing the PowerPoint was easy. On the design framework template, the main literature to support the study was clear as I had already done annotated bibliography on my research study for LTEC 6000 in previous weeks, this made me do the research in no time. Although some of the terms need to be researched for more clarification and for a better understanding of what was expected. Overall, this is easy.
What was fun?
It was fun, I always like PowerPoint presentation mostly when I need to do images to match the content. Certainly, I am a visual learner and I like to incorporate images that would impact the others and personally I do believe “a picture is worth a thousand words” when this is used in education as majority of people are visual learners, the picture with colors always stick on you than words, images can increase your speed of understand and when this represent a truth or a principle this can deliver a taxonomy for understanding the topic. What was challenging?
When I started writing the Design Framework Template, I had only solutions to four of my research problems but after I started the PowerPoint I found my long awaited solution that I was looking for and this took a very interest turn of my research. Reading and grasping the research was fun and was more satisfied of the outcome of my research.
What will you do differently in the future?
I feel my overall performance on the Design Framework was good, as mentioned before I would have preferred if I had some quiet time to think through the overall research concept. Felt the time was limited with my work and housework and the commitment that I have for the doctoral studies. With the overall PowerPoint presentation, I would have preferred If more time was there to practice the slide recording as it says “practice makes it perfect”
