Activity 2: Reflection for learning assessment

Assessment A

Analyzing the KidSense site was interesting to me, especially to find out the hidden problems in those systems and what improvements could be made. Sometimes we all fall into advertisement traps and purchase items without knowing issues that could lead to the purchase. The Kidsense.AI developed Kadho has a problem that the manufacturer had encountered the developed KidSense was not built on understanding kids. Although it was built on kids, they were not designed to communicate or understand kids. Ultimately the company shifted to focus on speech recognition technology, using a data set of kid’s voices with parents’ consent, and Roybi acquired the company.

Which problems that were discussed today most interest you? Which do you believe you can create a viable learning technology solution for this semester?

It is prudent to check the learning benefits expected from the tool and whether there is clear evidence of the kids learning. At the same time, conduct the failure modes and effect analysis to find out the possible failures in design, a manufacturing or assembly process, or a product or service. I intend to solve Professor David Merrill’s vision of creating learning effectively through developing a system for instructional designers. With the group discussion and the problems, we discussed, I can make a viable learning technology solution for this semester.

Assessment B

Based on your other courses, do you feel prepared to conduct analysis of the problem and synthesize a solution from the literature and other research artifacts?

Based on the other courses in learning technologies and my experience in the information technology and educational environment, I am prepared to conduct a thorough analysis of the problem encountered by instructional designers becoming designers by assignment and not qualified learners in the subject. As such, as recommended by Professor David Merrill to design and develop tools that these designers can use by assignment to carry on with their task of instructional designers.

I will also obtain literature from Charles Reigeluth, instructional design theories, and models for the learner-centered paradigm of education. With Professor David Merrill’s 1st principles of instructions, I should find the components of a problem, find a solution efficiently, and promote the skill needed to learn with the shortest possible time. Also, effectively arrive at the task as quickly as possible through engagement motivate the learner.

Assessment C

Based on the discussion, which analysis approaches do you feel comfortable with applying from your other coursework? Where did you learn them? What other practice have you done?

I have used the ADDIE model of analysis, design development, implementation, and evaluation for my master’s program. The subjects were LTEC 5210 (Instructional Design 1) and 5510 Technology-based learning environments, where I developed an online curriculum on action research. I am familiar and comfortable with applying the concepts of ADDIE this semester. Even though I have studied the SAM and the backward design model, I am more confident in the ADDIE design model. Going through the Vee engineering model, I would also like to learn more about the Vee module, which closely resembles the Information technology systems life cycle development model.

Going through the product engineering process, most of the steps resemble a software development module with analysis, design implementation or coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Moreover, I always think that the maintenance phase should be added to curriculum development, where the development takes place with the changes that happen throughout the years and technology advancements can be applied to the curriculum.

Assessment D

How will you plan your time over the next two weeks to meet the Task One requirements? What tools will you need to complete the task? What resources do you already have?

Within these two weeks, I will define what Professor David Merrill states, the problem through the first principles of instructions, and how designers have issues being assigned to instructional design positions. I will study and analyze the big picture, alongside the different parts that need to be solved. The data has already been captured through academic research, online sources, and interviews can be incorporated. The work of Professor David Merrill’s and Charles Reigeluth’s eight modules and the basic instructions methods illustrates what is learned and how to facilitate learning. Also, Robert Gagne’s nine levels of learning required for effective learning will be combined to build up a system for the designers by assignment (designers who are not instructional designers). I will need to Lucid Chart tool to create the engineering components for product representation.

At present, I have some academic research saved separately as I was thinking of addressing this problem or writing a research document. However, I need to read and analyze Charles Reigeluth’s and Robert Gagne’s writings to incorporate the required principles and theory to the developed system model and see similarities or duplications. I will also be using the eight-step soft systems methodology to build the model.
