- How did you break up the work this week? Who is doing what?
In the beginning, there was a bit of confusion about whether the task one problem was the proposed system project that the individual presented in week five and needed to base upon the individual presented the proposed system in week 4. As such, I elaborated my task 1 problem based on the initial defined problem of Instructional Model for Designers by Assignment. But during the weekend, joining in with the group on the development of a computer-based learning platform and the approval to join the group, having had the first meeting together, my thoughts and work project changed. Although I worked on the initial description of the problem, I would keep this work that I performed to continue with this project for the near future.
I was excited to join the group with Alex Mathews and Thiru Pandian to move the group project. The project of “Providing Computer based education to developing countries with limited access” is one of my passions to provide sustainable education to all. I am presently researching solar-powered solutions with Moodle, open-access capabilities, and a digital library. Inspired by the work done by Arizona State University and the down of the SolarSPELL Wi-Fi hotspot that includes Raspberry pie with Moodle as LMS, I was happy to work with the team to find solutions for the future.
- Explain what your group produced during the sessions or outside.
For the proposed system discussion forum, Alex drew out the preliminary proposed structure of the engineering system. That included solving the problem of providing access to education in developing counties. Furthermore, to design a cross-platform that could be used without internet connectivity, a system could download contents and use it with an LMS offline.
We, as a team, got together to discuss the engineering problem. Further, the problem was discussed at length to understand the big picture that describes the situation and problem the stakeholders involved and proposed solutions to the problem we seek to solve. Initially, the defined problem was divided into i) What is the problem ii) Who has the problem iii) What is the importance of solving the problem? These three questions brought us to more problems and solutions to think of the project as a larger concept of analysis. Were then discussed and divided into more sub-sections like i) lack of Internet and electricity & technology ii) Learners in affected areas, lack of educational access iii) purpose of the proposed solution with i) improved educational access and proposed solution. Also, the project solution involved the counties, environments, present situation, stakeholders, technology issues and failures, learning management tools, various teaching and learning methods, power, and connectivity. We gradually shared the work into three categories the pedagogical information needed, Solar power, Internet, electricity, and learning management system. With each one doing their task to complete the task 1 project, we fulfilled the required task 1. We are inspired by the project work that we are heading to solve as a group for this semester; we will continue to make this project a brighter future.
- Where are you with the engineering specifications document for your product? Describe what you still need to do.
We have a broad macro view of our project, have defined, and completed the problem on task 1 that involved parts of the problem and solution to the problem. Have visualized the system architecture model. Due to some features not being transparent, and forming the group was done last week, we are behind on the engineering specification of the problem. But having a solid team, we should be able to draw and plan the development requirements to the system that the system programmers can understand. We will define the team roles and responsibilities while breaking the labor appropriately according to our team’s skills for task 1 team. And create a timeline for expected development and execution.
- What is your timeline for completing the product engineering component?
As we learn through the new concept of the engineering module and grasp all the required pieces of the board engineering module, we should complete the product engineering components within 3-4 weeks.
