Writing the Research method was exciting, a challenging experience with a lot of doubts about whether I was doing the right thing, did it match my research topic, and where all the headings and subheadings go. Not being sure I first created a worksheet and went through some of the previous dissertations done on phenomenology as below, this gave me some kind of satisfaction. Also, I realized how each dissertation differed from the others depending on the dissertation topic. Trying to write and built up the dissertation research method was to go through a lot of reading and analyzing the research documentation. Reading through different dissertation topics gave me advanced knowledge of how each was structured and written. The research articles that I read either were not understood or did not make sense. When the reading was not clear I had to go through some YouTube videos to get some more examples and explanations. I am thankful to Dr. Warren for giving me a clear idea of what I need to concentrate on moving forward with my research method.

Reading through phenomenological research was interested in the transcending phenomenology of Husserl and Hermeneutic phenomenology by Heidegger. Husserl believed that prejudices and beliefs of a researcher could be firmly set aside in order to gain a well-defined view of the phenomenon whereas Heidegger believed that this was difficult to set aside and believed that basic consciousness was important to gain an understanding of the knowledge and the researcher takes on the unbiassed observer position to the determine the acknowledgment of both the researchers and participants.  Moving forward I am thinking of using the Heidegger hermeneutic method as this is the “practice of the art of interpretation.” And this involves the restoration of meaning (Noon, 2018).

Moving forward the major part of the completion of chapter 3 is to study the ways in which I would do the data collection of desk-based research, interpretative phenomenological analysis, surveys, video/audio records and artifacts, and semi-structured interviews, with the different methods of data collection more research articles has to be read to understand the interpretative phenomenological analysis as I have not studied deep into this type of method. In the selection one of the research article was about interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), the article mentioned that the IPA is committed to the systematic exploration of personal experience and the objective is to understand lived experiences and explore how individuals make sense of their personal and social worlds. The researcher attempts to seek the insider’s standpoint of lived experiences (Noon, 2018). Browsing the research paper, I have a feeling that I would enjoy the method of data collection and the data analysis of the IPA method while conducting my dissertation. The other learning curve is the data analysis of IPA and how these research scenarios can help to answer the ethical consideration and credibility and trustworthiness, will be some of the knowledge that I need to gain in writing chapter 3.
